Snowflake Gift Box by Tracey Sabella

Hi everyone. It's Tracey back to share a new project with you. 

It's that time of year when we are thinking and planning gifts for the special people in our lives. Today I'm sharing a wooden gift box I created that would be perfect for jewelry or a gift card. Donna's fabulous products were so much fun to work with on this girlie grunge snowflake box.

Tips and Techniques

I started off by painting this sweet wooden snowflake box with white gesso, then spritzed with Donna's Clearsnap Sea Breeze Smooch Spritz and then with water to lighten and spread the mist. While still damp, I used a soft, dry cloth to remove some of the mist from the snowflake to distress. When the mist was completely dry, I spritzed with a fixative to set the color.

I dabbed Clearsnap Glue Gloss on the snowflake edges and sprinkled with Donna's Clearsnap Sugar Shimmer Twinkle Dust Glitter to add a touch of girlie sparkle.

I lightly sprinkled Donna's Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder over one of her Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Foam Swirls and heat set. Because I did not completely cover the swirl with embossing powder, it was still tacky. I sprinkled on some of the Sugar Shimmer Twinkle Dust Glitter and adore the girlie grunge effect.

I created this little rose using Donna's Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms Die and added a couple tiny roses from my stash. The leaves and flowers are held in place with DODZ™.

I rubbed Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Gold Pigment Powder across her E-Z Stars, then scattered them across the top half of the box. Then I applied molding paste through a stencil to look like snow.

Originally there was red ribbon looped through holes at the top of the box for handles. I replaced it with Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® organza ribbon from her Texture Ribbon's pack. I twisted it with white twine.

Embossed E-Z Stars Technique by ~Donna Salazar

Happy Labor Day!!! Today I have the second E-Z Stars from Donna Salazar with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Quick Craft Tip for you. 

I started with a tag that already had the background done. I added some of my E-Z Stars randomly around the tag. I'm going to use 2 different colors of embossing powders so I've only added the first half of the E-Z Stars in the photo below.

I sprinkled a little bit of Mix'd Media Inx Leather (brown) embossing powder on the stars in the photo below. If you want a clean look you would then return the excess powder to the tub but I wanted it to have a bit of a Girlie Grunge look to it so I pressed the embossing powder into the stars so some of it would extend outside the edges.

After returning the excess powder to the tub, I added the second half of the E-Z Stars. I sprinkled the Denim (blue) Mix'd Media Inx embossing powder over these E-Z Stars and also pressed the powder into the background.

Heat set both colors of embossing powder at the same time.

I cut a strip of burlap ribbon (from the Texture Ribbons pack), tied it into a small bow then adhered it to the top of the tag with a Dodz™ 3D.

"Home Is where the Heart Is" Journal Page by Misty Russell

Hi! Misty here today to share a little project I created on one of the art journal pages from Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Denim Art Journal.

For the base of this project I covered the page with a napkin and then added a thin layer of gesso and added some color with Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® blue Pigment Powder and Clearsnap Candle Glow Smooch Spritz.

 Next, I started "building" the house by cutting out shapes from pattern paper, and then I added Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Photo Corners to my roof mimicking shingles.

Then I created the door and chimney using pieces of Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® - 3D foam frames stained with brown Pigment Powder.  I wanted to use the Donna's 3D swirls to create some whimsical smoke coming from the chimney and the black swirls worked perfectly with her Clearsnap Twinkle Dust Glitter to get this effect!

 To finish it all off and bring it all together, I added some stamping and gesso to all of the pieces and then cut out some words to say "Home is where the <3 is".

This was a lot of fun to make and I hope you like it too...

"Together" Masculine Mixed Media Card by ~ Tracey Sabella

Hi everyone. It's Tracey here to share a special masculine card I created for my wonderful husband. Gary and I will be celebrating our anniversary on Friday ~ thirty-three years!! 

While I enjoy creating feminine girlie grunge projects with Donna's fabulous products, I also adore the challenge of going masculine for the guys in my life.

Tips and Techniques

An easy way to achieve a lovely finish on chipboard is with embossing powder. I pressed the chipboard into my Jasmine Clearsnap Mix'd Media Inx pad, and covered with Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder before heat embossing. 

I hand cut this heart from the denim banner in Donna's newly released Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Pennant Set. I distressed the edges and lightly dry brushed with gesso. To give the heart some body, I cut a slightly smaller heart from thin cardboard and adhered it to the back of my denim heart.

I used Donna's new Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Pigment Powders to transform black cardstock into grungy metallic gears. I was going to mix the powder into matte medium to create a shimmery paint, but unfortunately it had gone bad. So I looked through my stash and because I wanted something that was colorless, I tried my transparent crackle paint. It worked perfectly. To get the dark gold, I mixed both gold and brown powder into the crackle medium. Then I set aside a small amount of this mixture and added blue pigment powder for a patina effect. I cut and embossed the gears from black cardstock using Donna's Spellbinders Sprightly Sprockets dies, then rubbed the dark gold colored paint across the gears, then went back and rubbed some of the patina medium randomly onto the gears. Because it is applied so thinly, there's no crackling on the gears like there is on the other places where I applied a heavier coat of the medium.

The canvas strips from Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Canvas Ribbons are left from a previous project, dyed and stamped with Donna's Mix'd Media Inx. 

I grunged up one of Donna's 3D Foam Keys from Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L. I started by lightly sprinkling on Donna's Clearsnap Leather Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder, then rubbed her brown Pigment powder into the remaining sticky adhesive areas. I wanted to finish off the sides of the key, so mixed brown pigment powder into transparent crackle paint. I applied this to the sides of the key, randomly across the top, and randomly to the metal key.

For a stenciling medium I mixed Donnas blue Pigment Powder into more of the transparent crackle paint. To get a darker blue, I also mixed in some of her Indigo Mix'd Media Inx. After stenciling, and while still wet, I lightly sprinkled with Denim Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder and heat set.

"Cherish Family" Layout by ~ Tracey Sabella

Hi everyone, it's Tracey back to share a wedding layout I created for some dear friends of our daughter. Micah is blessed to have three sweet children, and this is one of their favorite photos of them all together during the ceremony by Glacier Lake in Montana. 

I wanted the focus to be on this sweet photo, so I went with a monochromatic background filled with textured girlie grunge elements.

Tips and Techniques

I've used white on white elements accented with silver. The bow is created with Donna's Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Texture Ribbons (organza) To achieve a narrower ribbon for my bow, I cut a length of it in half, trimmed off the edging, then tied it into a triple loop bow. To get the grungy curled effect, I used a heat tool on the bow, being careful not to get too close to the ribbon for too long. I centered a crystal and silver button on the bow and tucked a couple jewelry charms beneath that are appropriately printed with the love verse from I Corinthians 13:4.

The Roses are created with Donna's Rose Creations dies and voile fabric. I created a tutorial for similar, Crushed Voile Peonies HERE. They are made the same way as the peonies, but using Rose Creation dies instead. If you number the dies from smallest to largest, I've used dies 4, 5, and 6 for the larger roses (the 3 largest dies in the set) and dies 4 and 5 for the smaller roses. I've filled the centers with stamens which can be found in the bridal section of most craft stores. The voile is found in the home decor section with the sheer fabrics used for curtains. I've also tucked in a Bitty Blossom flower, and my tutorial for these gems can be found HERE.

A close-up of one of my roses. I've used Donna's Zutter Distrezz-it-All on my layered edges. I've not found another distressing tool that makes such gorgeous distressed edges and so quickly too. People think I've used some kind of special paper because the distressing makes the paper look so thick.

I adore using Donna's Clearsnap Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powders. To get a girlie grunge effect on the chipboard, I dabbed with Donna's Clearsnap Emboss Gloss, then sprinkled on Jasmine embossing powder ever so lightly, so the bare chipboard would show through. You'll see the same treatment on other chipboard pieces around the page. 

Below the photo, I've layered a piece of Donna's fabulous Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Lace Ribbons. To grunge it up, I put a dab of Stormy Mix'd Media Inx Reinker on my craft mat and spritzed it with water, then pulled the lace through the inky puddle to color it. If you don't have the reinkers, you could get a similar effect by rubbing your ink pad on your mat, then spritz it with water. I used a paint brush to spatter and drip the excess ink onto my background. I've also used several of Donna's stamps to embellish the background as well.

"Two" Journal Page with Video Tutorial by ~ Misty Russell

Hi everyone! I'm back to share another page for the journal I'm creating for a sweet family that lost their son earlier this year. This page is a tribute to both Braeden and his beautiful girlfriend Caroline (you can read a little about their story here.)

While I didn't personally get to know Braeden. I feel like I've gotten a glimpse into his life through the stories that his family shares.

Because their mothers were best friends, Braeden and Carolines relationship seemed even more special than the average "boy meets girl" story. They literally knew each other their entire lives and had a great friendship before becoming girlfriend and boyfriend.

One of my favorite pics that they have shared is one where Braeden was just a little guy and Caroline was still in diapers. I can only imagine the trouble they had gotten into as little babes. :)

They were such a cute couple, and even though I didn't get a chance to know either of them their story has impacted my heart forever...

"One Day" Mixed Media Layout by ~ Misty

Hi everyone, today I'm sharing a special page I created for a sweet family who lost their son in December.  He was such a handsome and bright young man that everyone loved and this loss has effected our small community greatly.  You can read about the story here. 

I think about this family (and the family of the sisters) constantly.  I really wanted to something for them, so I decided to start an album using Donna's Denim art journal.  This of course, is just one of the pages that I've started...

Unfortunately, I'm not someone who creates with a picture already in my head. It usually starts with a background and then I go from there.  This particular picture seemed a perfect fit for the dreamy feel of the background. 

I decided that instead of throwing away the negatives to the 3D foam keys I would use them to create the texture in the background that I would usually get from modeling paste. 

This will probably be one of the last pages of the journal (see how well I plan? lol).  

It's a reminder that while the pain felt from losing Braeden is deep, it is only temporary.

One day they will be reunited again. <3

Do What Makes Your Soul Sing - Art Journal Page, by Mistra Hoolahan

Hi lovelies! Mistra here with you again today, sharing a page from my "Create" Journal I shared a few weeks ago. You can see the front cover in this post HERE. I love creating art journal, mixed media, girlie grunge pages... the process is fabulous. You just start by dabbling and then somehow it's all finished, like it almost created itself!

My base for this was one of the pages from Donna's Denim Art Journal, they are thick and chunky, so can handle anything I'm going to throw at it!   

I created this one at 'scrap camp' this weekend just gone. A couple of lovely girls sitting across from me often work on ATC's and always have such amazing techniques for backgrounds. I decided to try one for this. It was so simple! Crunch up some tissue, it could be plain or printed and adhere it to your base. Trim your edges, swipe on some embossing ink and then embossing powder and heat. The embossing gets stuck on all the ridges and creates this gorgeous effect.

I've used some Leather Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder for this one as I loved the shine it gave. I then added some more colour, using Mix'd Media Inx in Green Olive and Caramel Latte, with a touch of River Mossy.  

I created some flowers using some brown and green cardstock, cut using Donna's Rose Creations Die and a canvas butterfly using her Wonderful Wings Die, it was cut from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Pennant Set Canvas. 

Once all my embellishments were adhered, I gave everything a lick of dry brushed gesso, it helps all the embellishments to blend in with one another, especially handy when your colours are all quite bold and you wanted a more subtle look like I did for this piece. 

My final messy touch was rubbing in some Peridot Mix'd Media Inx ReInker. I just added a small drop from the ReInker bottle in the spots I wanted the colour and mixed it through with my finger, easy peasy!

The little typed word labels were inked with Peridot and Honey Mix'd Media Inx, helping the white not be so stark against the background.
