HKC - I Am Made New by ~Donna

Hello my peeps! Today is my BIRTHDAY and while I'm off with my family celebrating I have a canvas to share with you. Can I just say that I am loving the Take Me Deeper prompts? I have so many things on my plate these days that pull me away from my studio but committing to participate in TMD is feeding my artistic soul and helping me to get into the word regularly... Plus I think it is making me a better artist! There is something special that happens when you are not just reading the word but giving your interpretation of what the word is making you feel on canvas. If you haven't joined His Kingdom Come, I highly recommend it.

This is the canvas that I made this week

I had a lot of fun making this canvas. It is only an 8x10 but I put so many layers on this that it took me an entire day to make it. I began by creating a peeled paint background. Normally I use Fast Finish Decoupage over the background and with several layers it becomes shiny. But for this canvas I wanted there to be a significant difference between the background and the heart so I added a matte medium over the background.

When I made the heart I began by using some Liquitex Flexible Modeling paste to create a dimensional heart shape. I decoupaged pieces of bible pages over the heart and then added the color with some Liquitex Basics paint. I added Liquitex Heavy Gloss Gel over the top to make the heart look "shiny and new" and I even added some of my Twinkle Dust Glitter to add extra sparkle. I also added a touch of my Brown Pigment Powder from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L mixed with Fast Finish Decoupage around the heart for added depth.

I stamped out the bible verse with Mix'd Media Inx CHOX in Sparrow, cut the words into strips and adhered them to the canvas.

I used several different Stencil Mask fonts from Hazel & Ruby to add the title. I like using fine black marker around the letters first before I add the color and shading around the letters so that it helps to make the letters show up even more. I used watercolor pencil and Brown Pigment Powder around the stencil masks and blended it with Fast Finish Decoupage. I dry brushed some white paint over the letters after I was finished to make the letters stand out against the background a little more and added a bit more fine black marker.

I finished off the outside edge of the canvas with Bluejay Mix'd Media Inx CHOX and blended it towards the center. The Bluejay CHOX are really close to the Light Blue Liquitex Basics paint that I use on the background of most of my canvases so I combine these two often.

Pigment Powder - Brown

Twinkle Dust Glitter - Sugar Shimmer
