"New" Art Journal Page with Flower Video Tutorial by ~ Tracey Sabella

Hi everyone!! It's Tracey here to share my first ever art journal page. Remember back during Donna's CHA product reveal? I created a cover for my Faith Journal. I've been wanting to create an art journal for a long time now, and Donna's Denim Art Journal was just the incentive I needed to take the plunge. Here's my first page.

"New Creature"

Tips and Techniques
Donna's Scrapbooking Adhesives by 3L Denim Art Journal contains heavy duty chipboard pages that hold up beautifully to mixed media techniques. I started by brushing the page with white gesso, then applied several different colors of Donna's Clearsnap Mix'd Media Inx to achieve the creamy yellow background. I then used Donna's Bubble Wrap stamp with Patina Mix'd Media Inx across the page followed by a variety of stamps using Stormy MMI.

I cut the gorgeous butterfly with Donna's Spellbinders Fanciful Flight die. I then cut four pieces of her Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Lace Ribbons (looped). I used water color crayons to dye the lace a dark grey. I trimmed off the top straight edge, then adhered the lace to the butterfly wings. I just adore the lacy edge on the wings!! I added a handcrafted flower and rosebud to the center.

I used a typewriter font to print out my verse, 2 Corinthians 5:17 onto white cardstock. I colored the cardstock with Donna's Mix'd Media Inx and after adhering to the page, edged with a black watercolor pencil to create a soft edge. I randomly drew circles here and there around some of the bubble wrap images with my black watercolor pencil and then filled them with iridescent flakes.

The page is edged by stamping with Donna's Crackle stamp using her black Mix'd Media Inx, stamping multiple times in the corners and closer to the edges to fill-in for a darker effect.

I used the word "new" at the top of the page to highlight what this verse is taking about. The letters already were printed with script, but I added some flourished stamping for even more texture. They were white, so I rubbed with denim Mix'd Media Inx and edged lightly with black.

I dyed the crocheted ribbon from Donna's Lace Ribbons pack using her Clearsnap Pralines and Cream Smooch Spritz. For a grungy effect, I unraveled the ends. The same technique was used for my butterfly trail.

The paper flourish is cut from white cardstock, colored with Mix'd Media Inx, dabbed with Glue Gloss and sprinkled with Twinkle Dust Glitter. The metal piece is painted with white gesso and when dry, colored with sea breeze and pralines & cream Smooch Spritz.

I have several firsts in this post. I created my first video tutorial on creating the sweet Organza Open Rose here in the corner using Donna's Scrapbooking Adhesives by 3L Texture Ribbons (organza), Mixed Media Inx, Clearsnap Pralines & Cream Twinkle Dust Glitter, and a DODZ™to adhere the glitter.
