Love Art Journal by ~ Misty Russell

Hi, Misty here today to share a journal created with the awesome new Denim Art Journal! I was so excited when I saw this book. I absolutely love everything denim so to have the chance to work with an art journal with a denim cover.... I was in heaven! Not to mention it is so strong and sturdy and ready to take on the messiest of mixed media creations, which is something I definitely want in an art journal.

I grunged it up by adding paint and Mix'd Media Inx (refills). I like to drop the tiniest amount onto my creations and then lightly mist with water to get the same effects you would with regular mists.

Above you can see one of my new favorite DSD products! The 3D Foam swirls.  Did you know you can emboss these awesome little gems?! I didn't try it with this particular project because I just assumed they would melt!  To my surprise they take heat embossing very well. Not only that, but since they have adhesive on both sides, you don't have to add anything to adhere the powder. So 3D Foam shapes are going to be my go to products. Can you imagine the possibilities with embossing, glitter, and now the new pigment powders...the perfect customizable embellishments for any artwork.

Finally, my other new favorite things...the ribbons. Denim, Canvas and Lace...OH MY!!! It's hard to see here, but I used the Denim, Canvas, lace, and organza ribbon to add some fabric texture to the journal (You can see it better in the video below). In true grunge style, I did abuse the ribbon a bit by tearing pieces apart.  I wanted the funky frayed edges. The great thing about these ribbons is that I didn't have to carefully pull apart pieces of thread to create the full frayed edge it was perfect with just one rip of the fabric. I don't think it has ever been that easy for me before. :)

Now to see my process here is a start to finish video:
